How to build a balanced gaming PC for the best price
The secret to a good build is balance: don't pair a very strong graphics card with a weak CPU or too little memory. Here is a straightforward guide to each part, and how to save using Open Box components.
1. CPU — the brain of the system
For gaming, AMD Ryzen 5/7 from the 5000 series and up, or Intel Core i5/i7 from 12th gen and up, give you excellent performance. An i5 or Ryzen 5 is enough for most players; step up to an i7/Ryzen 7 if you edit video or stream.
2. GPU — the most important part for gaming

3. Memory (RAM)
- 16GB is the sweet spot for most current games.
- 32GB if you multitask heavily, edit video, or play the newest titles.
- Always run dual channel (two sticks) for higher performance, and enable XMP/EXPO in the BIOS.
4. Motherboard
Pick a board that supports your CPU socket (AM5/AM4 for AMD, LGA 1700 for Intel) and carries the connectivity you need (M.2 for storage, WiFi, enough USB ports). You don't need the most expensive board — what matters is compatibility and the features you'll actually use.
5. Storage (SSD)
A 500GB-1TB NVMe SSD is essential for fast boot and game load times. You can add a larger drive later for bulk storage.
6. Power supply — don't cut corners here
